Trail Dog Race Series
What is a trail dog race series? Well if you have a dog you like to run with, then these races are designed just for you. It’s our version of canicross racing. A true canicross race is done on a cross country race course. But our races are held in our beautiful west coast forests on single and double track trails with lots of ups and downs. It is truly a different experience you and your dog will love!
The Applecross Vet Trail Dog Race Series wouldn’t happen without the financial support of Applecross Veterinary Hospital. A strong supporter of endurance events on central Vancouver Island.

Does my dog have to be on leash?
Yes, it’s what makes the race awesome.
Can I let my dog off leash once we leave the start/finish area?
No, the whole essence of a trail dog race is to run with your dog. As well, who wouldn’t want help being pulled up the hills.
Can I walk the course?
Absolutely! For the first two races there is a 3 hour time limit but that’s only because that is when the mountain bikers start their race at noon.
Why are these races not held in the summer?
We hold our races in the winter when it isn’t as hot for the dogs and it’s wet and muddy, two things most dogs love.
I don’t have a dog but I want to race?
Yes bipeds are welcome but you will just miss out on the awesome prizes…unless you’re really into rope toys and dog food.
Will there be a medical aid for my dog on site?
Yes, one of the Veterinarians from Applecross Veterinary Hospital will be on site for the duration of the race.

I am always looking for volunteers to help with timing and safety; for those of you who would like to volunteer you will get 5 race points and my deepest gratitude. Please contact me if you can help.
There will be a simple aid station at the Start/Finish. If there are enough volunteers I will put out a water station half way through the long run course.
There will be a small awards ceremony after the last race!
