2018 Winter Mountain Bike Race Series
Welcome to the winter mountain bike race series. Nanaimo’s newest mountain bike races.
Before you go any further please read this list of warnings as these are winter races:
- It will be cold.
- It will be snowy.
- It will be slippery.
- It will be muddy.
- It will be icy.
- It will be raining.
- It may be snowing.
- You might fall.
- You might have to push your bike up hill, through the snow.
- It will be fun!
Now with all that being said it is going to be a blast! These courses are fun, challenging, fast, techinical, a little bit of everything. That’s what makes them so awesome.
The Winter Mountain Bike Series wouldn’t happen without the financial support of Applecross Veterinary Hospital. A strong supporter of endurance events on central Vancouver Island. If you like to run with your dog be sure to check out the Applecross Vet Trail Dog Race Series.

Race Format and Start Times
These are loop courses of 5-8km in length. There are three categories: beginner, intermediate, and advanced (1, 2 or 3 laps respectively). The advance race starts at 12:00, intermediate at 12:05 and beginner at 12:10.
There will be a short pre-race briefing 5 minutes before the advanced start time. This is to give you an update on course conditions, and a quick rundown of the race rules.
Helmets are mandatory.
Remember it’s winter, so it will be cold. Dress for the weather.
The following safety gear is recommended (but not required) to be carried by all participants.
- Emergency Blanket
- Cell Phone
- Matches or Lighter

Linley Valley Races
Parking is available on Rock City Road or Burma Road.
Parking is on the street near Sywash Ridge and Normarel Dr.
Parking is available in the Westwood Lake parking lots.

I am always looking for volunteers to help with timing and safety; for those of you who would like to volunteer you will get 5 race points and my deepest gratitude. Please contact me if you can help.
There will be a simple aid station at the Start/Finish. If there are enough volunteers I will put out a water station half way through the long run course.
There will be a small awards ceremony after the last race!
